Date in full text (Word 2002)

At my work I have to type all dates in a document in full text like current date, birthday of (at least) two persons, issue date, expire date, contract date, conveying date, etc. etc. I was wondering if there is an easier way to do this.
In The Netherlands in this order: day/month/year.
For example (in Dutch), passport issued on achttien februari tweeduizend vijf, expire date achttien februari tweeduizend tien.
Is there a way to type for example 18022005 and convert it to text automaticly?
    Hope someone can help me.

    Regard, Mary-Jane

    Hi Mary-Jane,

The attached zipped document contains a custom toolbar. If you click the button, you'll be prompted to enter a date in ddmmyyyy format. This will be converted to text and inserted into the document at the current location.

If you want to be able to use this in all documents, you must import the custom toolbar and the code module into your Normal.dot or into a global template (add-in). You can use the Organizer for this (Tools | Templates and Add-Ins..., Organizer)

Re: Date in full text (Word 2002)

    Hi Hans,

Any chance this is available for us American English people? Maybe even the part about the screwed up date ordering (mm/dd/yyyy)?

More importantly, I can't even get it to run in Dutch. When I initially opened your file, I got the usual macro warning so I said yes to enable macros. When I tried to run your tool, I got a warning about how the macro could not be found or my macro settings were too high (on medium). So I changed the macro settings to low, closed Word and reopened. Same thing. So I copied the toolbar to Normal via the Organizer and exported the code. Opened my normal.dot, added the code (the toolbar was in there), opened a new document based on Normal et viola - same warning.

But it's a great idea. Glad to see it worked for someone. Maybe my Word is objecting to the Dutch - hence the original question. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    TIA

    Fred

    Hi Fred,

Screwed up date ordering (mm/dd/yyy) ??? Thankyou very much - lol. I'ts dd/mm/yyyy in The Netherlands. Can't be helped.

    Hi Hans,

I have the same error as Fred. I too tried exactly the same as Fred with no results.

Looking foreward for a possible solution,
    Regards, Mary-Jane

    Hi Mary-Jane,

Try the version in the attached zip file. It is a template that must be installed in your startup folder for Word. Its default location on a Dutch language system is

    Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftWordOPSTARTEN

You can check its location on your PC as follows:
    - Start Word.
    - Select Tools | Options... (Extra | Opties...)
    - Activate the File Locations tab (Bestandslocaties)
    - Double click Startup (Opstarten)
    - See the Look in (Zoeken in) dropdown list to view the full path.

Copy the template from the zip file to the Startup folder, then restart Word.

I also found the same problem, even though I have Macro security set to high and I signed the code myself!

It turns out that the link from the toolbar button to the code is what has broken. If you use Tools > Customise to add another toolbar button to run the same code then it works fine.

Re: Date in full text (Word 2002)

Thanks Hans. Works great. I didn't run into the same problem with the English version as Stuart and I ran into with the Dutch version as far as needing to relink the macro to a button.

    >Try the version in the attached zip file. It is a template that must be installed in your startup folder for Word.

But for testing, I just save to the desktop, right click, and then choose New. So I have a new document based on your template. Then I move to my startup or templates folder depending on where I want this. In this case, its definitely a Startup folder item.

I can see a few enhancements that would need a few radion buttons or checkboxes. For example, include day of week or not (I usually include the day of week), spell out year or not. Nothing super. Version of date (ddmmyyyy v mmddyyyy). But don't do anything more on this.

I tried first the solution from Hans. This works fine for new document.
Than I tried the solution from StuartR and that did the job for me.

Many thanks to both Hans and StuartR.

    Mary-Jane

Re: Date in full text (Word 2002)

    Hi Mary-Jane,

I was complaining about the mm/dd/yyyy order we live with in the US. I personally like dd/mm/yyyy. I like yyyy/mm/dd even better.

I was once in Austrialia and got sick. I got a prescription while there. I think the date was something like September 3 of whatever year (1992?). The date on the prescription was written numerically as 3/9/92. When I submitted it to my insurance company back here in the states, they dated the claim as March 9, 1992 - 3/9/92. I wasn't about to try correcting them on that. Not worth it. Good thing the date wasn't something like Sept 13 - 13/9 in Australia and most of the sane world. I always wondered what the insurance company would have done with that date but I'm sure it would have involved more work on my part.

Re: Date in full text (Word 2002)

Here is a version with extra bells and whistles. It lets you choose:
    - DMY, MDY or YMD date format
    - Include weekday name or not
    - Year as text or as number
Your preferences are stored in the registry.

Re: Date in full text (Word 2002)

    Hi Hans,

In the zipped document you've sent, there must be an error:
When I use the day 10, 20 or 30 (of any month) it converts to the text "nul".
I have no idea how to change that.

    Regards,
    Mary-Jane.

    Hi Mary-Jane,

You're correct, I'm sorry about that. I didn't test enough. Try the new version attached to this post. (Note for others: this is the Dutch version)
