    Outlook Bar Gone (MSO 2003)

I see they removed the Outlook Bar from 2003. And I know I can add inet shortcuts to favorites or start menu.

But neither of these will open a page IN outlook. But Microsoft Office Onle is showing as a shortcut, and it DOES open in Outlook. So what the heck am I doign wrong with this? 'Cause it doesn't appear that I can just drag/drop a shortcut into the group, and if I just go to create one, it has no option t enter an inet address.

    ??

    John:

Yea, that worked... I MISS MY OUTLOOK BAR.

What the the heck were /are they thinking? THAT was one of the things that made centralization in MS Office possible!

Oh well, who am I anyway?

    Regards,
    Chuck

I didn't like the interface changes much in 2003 (from 2000 and XP), but I got used to them. OTOH, I never used the Outlook bar, I always preferred Folder view only.

    Dave et al:

I suppose my main gripes with v2003 are 2:

One is the pia it is to put a shortcut ifrom a web page into Outlook, as I had just finished training myself to centralize activities there; and

Although the Folder View pane is supposed to substitute, it puts you into a sort of "all or nothing " place that I could do without. I often found myself selectively turning the Bar or Folder View on or off, but now....

AAMOF, also, you are pushed into the new title bar etc. designs... and after I had just shut all that off in XP Pro and gone back to classic....

Oh well, I'm just getting old I guess

    Dave:

But those buttons don't open up sections of the bar that you can modify... they just take you to areas... pre-defined like the "Inbox" etc. on the old bar...

Re: Outlook Bar Gone (MSO 2003)

    The new interface was based on lots of user input. Apparently MS didn't check with you, Chuck. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15> <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

For users who work with Outlook as their e-mail client 90%+ of the time, I can see that the 2003 interface has advantages. You can change the new design to closely resemble the XP and prior version Folders only view, but not the Outlook Bar View.

    John:

Not only did they not check with me, but then they hid everything so that I've had to beat up everybody here to get myself straight. Not that I'm not a bit slow, or anything...

Oh well, no use whining at MS's door... So I'll just do a bit more reading in my so new, so big MSO 2003 book!
