remove toolbar (2003)

How do I remove a customized toolbar that does not wish to be deleted? I delete it (Tools>Customize>Toolbars>Delete) The toolbar disappears. However, if I close down Word and then open it up, I see the toolbar again. Is there a solution?

Have you created the toolbar interactively (using Tools | Customize), or is it created in code when you start Word? Check the VBA code in your Normal.dot and in global templates (if you have them).

It was in Tools>Customize. Nothing I do can remove this toolbar.

The toolbar is probably stored in your Normal.dot. Try the following:
Open Normal.dot directly (it probably lives in C

ocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftTemplates)
Use Tools | Customize... to delete the toolbar.
Save Nornal.dot.
Quit and restart Word to see if it has disappeared.

I did what you recommended....also renamed Normal.dot to Normal...old. Word rebuilt Normal.dot without the toolbar. Thank you very much. I do appreciate it.

What toolbar are you trying to remove?
If it is a third party (like Adobe) then it may be controled by that software.
