    WINDOWS XP PRO (sp1)

    Having read a lot of sp2 problems - should I update my xp pro which came with my new laptop or not?

    YES you should. As soon as possible.

    Windows XP systems that do not have SP2 typically have far more problems than those that do. Of course you may be the unlucky one, but you may be the unlucky person who gets hacked because you didn't have the security updates in SP2.

    Unquestionably. Stuart is correct that you may be one of the unlucky ones that the SP2 installation causes a problem, although on a new (how new is it that it didn't come with SP2 installed as part of the OS installation ??) system it shouldn't cause any problems at all. But if you don't, you could be on of the unfortunate thousands whose systems are compromised through one of the security holes in the OS. Best to patch it ASAP.

    YES, YES, YES. In addition to the reasons Stuart lists, future updates (if MS follows past practice) will require that SP2 be installed.
