Search & Replace for multiple spaces (Office 97)

I was sent an e-mail attachment by someone who's never learned how to set a tab. There are many columns and rows, and the columns are all lined up by multiple spaces. Is there a way to search for those groups of multiple spaces and replace each group with a single tab? I can't search for a particular number of spaces because it varies. I can do it by searching for 2 spaces and replacing with none and keep repeating until they are all gone, but a single S and R would be nice.

(searching for white space doesn't work because there are single spaces between some words that need to be left alone)

You can search for a space followed by ^w (the code for "white space") and replace it with ^t (the code for a tab). This will leave single spaces alone, but will replace 2 or more spaces.

thanks, that works just fine (and I'm a bit embarrassed to not have thought of that myself)
