verizon.net customers please note

All email notifications to you from the lounge are ending up in a mail que, unable to be delivered. This started on February 21, the problem appears to be at relay.verizon.net, that's where the errors bounce from.

Similar experience with other ISPs has shown that it takes ages and ages for someone to admit that there is a problem and then it takes even longer for them to find someone who understands the problem and can go and fix it.

So, instead of waiting ad infinitum in frustration, why don't you guys open a google email account (which can be incorporated into your normal email client but can also be accessed via web interface) and change your email in your profile to your new account.

Of course google email accounts are not publicly available. However, if you email loungeadmin@wopr.com, I shall send you an invitation to join up

That way we don't need to wait for verizon to find and fix their problem .
Cheers, Claude.

, I currently have 50 to give away, there are about 25 active loungers from verizon.net so I should be ok, but, I'll keep that in mind.
Cheers, Claude.

There was a story in today local paper about Verizion customers NOT getting their email. It is a bigger problem than the one that MS is having with the "Paid" Hormail accounts.

Claude,
This is the latest fron Verizon this AM.

ALL, repeat ALL messages from WOPR to Verizon accounts are now being blocked because the SERVER that the lounge uses DOES NOT comply with RSC standards, in that the server is NOT ALLOWING VENDOR VERIFY action to occur.

This is an action that ( apparently ) all ISPs will eventually have to comply with. Verizon being one of the first?

I don't completely understand this but I think it is the latest standards for Remote Server Connections ( RSC ) that was recently enacted.

Verizon suggests that WOPRs ISP be notified of this non compliance and correct same before any emails will be allowed !!!

Meanwhile all of us Verizon customers will not receive any emails fron the Lounge. PERIOD?

I'm a Verizon customer, and I've been wondering why my email, including replies from WOPR, has been "dead." The entire Verizon service is apparently screwed up. Starting a few days ago, I coulnd't get to my personalized home page, and trying to solve that problem only led to "This page cannot be viewed" screens!! I called the hard-to-find tech. number, only to be told it was a 30 minutes wait--no thanks! Unless this issue is resolved soon, it's "so long, Verizon."

Probably it's RFC (Request for Comments) and Sender Verify, and if this is a problem, I think it would affect AOL addresses, too. The thing AOL checks is in the DNS records. I forget the details, but it was something that we had to do in our Firm's DNS records in order to be able to send to AOL users.

Re: verizon.net customers please note

I'm having nearly the same problem with my remailer Spam settings for mailings from server lists. Since Lists tend not to reply, and my settings are too aggressive, I have to back off - I just haven't figured which setting it is I need to back off on, it's most likely one of these:

Require PTR Record
Sender Policy Framework
Spam and Open Relay Blocking System
Bad HELO hostname
Sender Address verification

Maybe one day I'll even understand what they mean!

At least my remailer gives me whitelisting and Bounce/Hold/Flag/Ignore options, it appears that Verizon is jamming their settings down your throat.

Jefferson,
It appears to be "sender verify" and it is handledcorrected by enabling that on the server side.
Also from what I've been told, it is done on a ISP by ISP basis, not some broadcast "fix". They say it is an easy setting change but each server has to comply or no one gets any mail. Great dictatorship ego, no?

The question is: Can we get the Lounge ISP server to make the change?????????????

John,
See my reply to Jefferson.

I think it's the Sender Address verification thing.

Dennis,
Please take some time to stay on the line to Verizon.

The more that people make noise about this, possibly they will take some positive action on it.

I think I"m about on a first name basis with most of their tech persons by now, but MORE customers have to make themselves heard.

Re: verizon.net customers please note

My understanding of Sender Verify is that when you send a mail, the recipient mail server takes the From address and starts the handshake that would be needed to send it an email - if that email address gives an error then the original email is not delivered.

Since email notifications from the lounge have a From address that is the same as the To address, I suspect that this automatically fails as being a forged From address.

I don't think that Sender Verify is described in any RFC, but you can't stop your ISP from doing this - other than by moving to a different ISP.
