    Favorites Do Not Open (IE6)

Just an annoying issue that I'd like to repair...

When I click on Start | Favorites | Pick One~, the browser opens as it should but it will not load the page or site, it simply loads to an about:blank page. On the other hand, if I use the Favorites menu within the browser, it acts just as it should. So I would guess that there's no problem wihing the Favorites folder itself. Something is just keeping the browser from opening to the correct page.

FWIW, My Favorites folder is quite populated! I've merged the URLBase5 Personal Edition list with my pre-existing list. The problem , however, was present before I integrated the URLBase5 Favorites catalog.

Additionally, if the browser is already open and a choice is made from the Start | Favorites menu, the page opens up just fine! But again, if the browser is not already open, a selection will start the browser to an about:blank page.

    Thanks,
    - Ricky

If you are saying that the Favorite is named "Pick One~", then try removing the "~" from the end of it. HTH

Try right-clicking on the Start button, selecting Properties>Start Menu tab>Customize button>Advanced tab and removing the Favorites option from the Start Menu. Reboot the computer and then reverse the process and see if it works correctly then.

Thanks for the suggestion, Doc. Though it did not fix the problem, it did get me started on the correct path to a remedy. I went through the "Set Program Access And Default" menu, checked, unchecked, re-checked, booted and re-booted a number of times, and now it seems to work just fine.

There's no question that Microsoft bashing is a popular pasttime for 1/2 the universe, but I normally refrain from joining in. I usually think along the lines that: "when you're #1, you're an easy target", and "there's never been a statue erected of a critic" and "being a critic doesn't require an IQ beyond that of an oyster". And I know that if I uninstalled every Microsoft title from my PC, I wouldn't have much use for what was left! And I believe that's true for millions of other PC users, including the bashers and critics (though they'd never admit it). Just keep your seats, Linux and Mac people, it's not worth it! Having said all that... isn't the "Set Program Access And Defaults" module a piece of junk?

Set Program Access and Default.......... All-in-all, a completely useless utility (except, it seems, for fixing this particular problem). I suppose they have to put something in for those who are used to AOL and can't do anything on a computer without having it spoon-fed to them. <img src=/S/rofl.gif border=0 alt=rofl width=15 height=15>

Glad you got it worked out. Sometimes a "virtual" kick-in-the-head is what's needed to get things working right again.
