    duplicate emails (Outlook 2000)

    Hi,

I can see that there have been varying questions on this issue in the past, but I cannot see one that is like my issue, so I'd like some advice, or direction to an answer.

I am getting duplicate emails because I have two copies of Outlook open. But I dont know why that is.

At the end of the day, I close Outlook and lock my pc. Next morning, I unlock, and open Outlook, and get duplicate messages. I have the 'Leave messages ont the server' ticked because I share the email address with other colleagues and they want to see what had come in as well.

I am not running any PDA or synchronising software. My setup is all very plain and ordinary. Those who share the email address do not have the same problem.
It seems to me that Outlook does not close at the end of the day, but I dont know why.

    Re: duplicate emails (Outlook 2000)

I guess that's the question that I am asking.

When I get the duplicate emails, if I go to Task Manager, I can see that there are two instances of Outlook running. If I End Task on one of them, they both close.

At the end of the day when I close Outlook, I am assuming that the program is closing. The entry on my Task Bar closes. I guess what I'll have to do is have a look to see if it closes in Task Manager.

You might want to log out completely (you don't need to shut down, just log off), in case one of your other running applications is keeping Outlook open.

Yeah, I guess that's the easiest solution.

I just always want to know why so that I can fix it rather than work around a problem.

    Thanks

Programs that connect to your Outlook data, such as PDA sync programs, can keep Outlook open. If you figure out everything running at startup, and compare with what's running when Outlook stays alive in memory, maybe you can spot the culprit that way?
