    Custom List vs List (2003)

I think the difference between the two is basically the fact that typing a "custom list" in a non-printing area or another sheet or workbook, is no longer necessary with the new "list" feature. Correct or insane?

    Thanks

No. Custom lists are there for sorting and for autofill purposes.

Ok - I'm wrong - please tell me the difference. I thought you could sort and use the autofill feature with the new "list" s as well.

    thanks for the post

Re: Custom List vs List (2003)

In Excel 2003 lists have been added, which give a whole set of new options. Lists are a special type of range, which has special behaviour, like easy copying of adjacent formulas, showing a total, filtering, etcetera. Adding a row to a list forces (moves) the data below the list downwards.

Lists can also make use of "Custom lists" when doing autofill and sorting, as any other range of cells can.

Do you know where I can get any information on the new list feature in Excel 2003?? What it does, what it is useful for etc etc. Have looked at the knowledge base and the microsoft site but am still unclear on exactly what the benefits of it are.

    Thanks
