    Runtime Install Problem (A2000)

<img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15> I have a client that has A97 runtime on Win98 machines. As part of an upgrade, I'm upgrading them to A2000 runtime. I used my standard install "disk". The first Setup installs the DB, the 2nd installs the runtime. While doing the runtime install, I got a message to the effect "Windows Installer was updated, restart machine and reselect Startup". I did that (several times), but got same message each time. Happened on 2 machines. I know I've installed from this disk before for other clients, although perhaps none were win98 (although I think there were some). I even downloaded Windows Installer ver 2 from Microsoft site, but when installing it said "Already Installed".

Any idea on how to get past this?

    Don't know if this relevant.

I created a a2k rt on my winxp sp2 development computer then installed it on a customers winxp sp1 computer and got the following message:

Setup cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your system. Click OK if you would like setup to update these files for you now. You will need to restart Windows before you can run setup again. Click cancel to exit setup without updating system files. OK

This kept me in a deadly embrace with no progress in the installation

I finally had to temporarily install access & developer on winxp sp1 computer and package the rt on customers machine, then rt worked OK on other winxp sp1 and sp2 computers

I would be interested in any comments others may have.

Sounds similar. I take it you clicked OK to allow the files to be updated, but kept getting the same message each time you went into Setup?
