    Recycle Bin Doesn't

Of course it's our fault for not wanting to spend $200. for Windows XP but along with the no shutdown problem that I've long accepted as normal I am very puzzled as to why I can no longer send items to the Recycle Bin. When I delete it's gone!! The Bin seems to be prperly selected but regardless of the size nothing goes there anymore. Now I'm not insane so I do have GOBACK installed and if I really want to recover something I can RESTORE to a previous time and lo and behold there all that old stuff is again - a miracle. But what could I do if I wanted to - to get my recycle bin working again you gurus!

    Re: Recycle Bin Doesn't

This MS article: Cannot Delete Any Files in Windows explains how to reinstate a "corrupted" recycle bin.
It might help solve your problem as well.
Search the Windows98 board for "shutdown problem". There are some references to systematic troubleshooting methods for this too.

It could also be that the Recycle Bin is set to delete items sent there straight away. Right click on the Recycle Bin icon and select properties. You should see a tick box with something like 'Do not move files to the recycle bin, remove files immediately when deleted'. Make sure there's no tick in here. If there is one, remove it then click OK.

Lyra's tip should fix your Recycle Bin for you. But you shouldn't have to just "accept" the shutdown problem with Windows 98. Go here to get the patch. But save it to you hard drive or a floppy for later use. It doesn't always stick and may need to be reinstalled from time to time.... <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>
