    The Windows XP Tweaking Companion

Not sure if this belongs here or the XP forum... so feel free to move it if appropriate.

The Windows XP Tweaking Companion (XPTC) is the complete Windows XP and system optimization guide. No longer do you have to put up with so-called XP Tweak Guides which have a handful of Registry tweaks and some vague optimization advice - the XPTC brings an enormous range of detailed descriptions and resources together in one free 170 page downloadable PDF file. Everything from the correct installation of Windows and critical software and drivers, through to recommendations for every significant setting in XP, all the major performance, visual and convenience tweaks, and descriptions of XP's functionality. The XPTC includes comprehensive chapters on overclocking, benchmarking and stress testing, troubleshooting and regular maintenance procedures. Basically the XPTC is the mother of all Windows XP Tweak Guides and System Optimization Guides, and it's right here for you to try for yourself.

Have you tried it out yet? if so, whats your opinion of this utility?

I used a utility called Windows Configurator which was a free download for tweaking windows 2000, and have been looking for a tweaker for XP. Hense my query on what your opinion is!
    Regards,
    Rudi

Hi Rudi! I don't think this is a utility (I know, Alan is the utility meister !). It's a PDF document, a guide, a manual.

Well, it belonged in Windows XP when I <!post=posted about it,450388>posted about it<!/post> just over a month ago!!

Admittedly it's now gone from v1.02 to v1.03...

Ah, sorry I didn't look there.
I heard about it as a "brand new" release, so maybe that was just a new version number.
    Another day, another crosspost. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    Hi Rudi

It wasn't actually my sales pitch - it was the intro on the download site. But their pitch did sell it as a "170 page downloadable PDF file". I don't have XP, so haven't tried it. I've heard some pats on the back from individual users, but that's about it I'm afraid.

Re: The Windows XP Tweaking Companion

I would point out that the (renamed) TweakGuides Tweaking Companion is now at version 2.00 (August 2005), and is a 1812 KB download, containing a 170 page PDF.

Re: The Windows XP Tweaking Companion

has anyone had time to read through it yet?? if so - is it worth reading through? (i'm pretty limited on time for the next month)

i've often found that most of these "tweaks" don't make any noticeable difference in my machine's performance.
