Change Show Desktop Icon? (WinXP Pro SP2)

I recently bought a new computer with WinXP Pro SP2. In the Quick Launch bar the Show Desktop icon is blue and is hard to differentiate from the other icons. On my old computer (Win98SE) the Show Desktop icon was yellowish and was easy to spot. I cannot find a way on WinXP to change the Show Desktop icon to the way it appeared on my old computer. How can I change the Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch bar in WinXP? Thanks. Robert

    Try this:
Find the Show Desktop file in your Quick Launch folder (typically in Cocuments and SettingsusernameApplication DataMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch).
Right click it and select Create Shortcut
Right click the new shortcut, select Properties, and change the icon to something more appropriate.
Drag the new shortcut from the folder onto your Quick Launch bar.

Re: Change Show Desktop Icon? (WinXP Pro SP2)

    Hi Leif,
Thank you very much for your reply. I found a replacement icon, but it was not my first choice. What I really wanted to do was to replace the WinXP BLUE Show Desktop icon with the Win98SE YELLOW Show Desktop icon, but it looks like it can't be done. Even if I copy the Show Desktop command (with yellow icon) from the Win98SE Quick Launch folder and paste it into the WinXP Quick Launch folder, the icon automatically changes from yellow to blue. Oh well, so much for that idea. Thanks again. Robert

Leif's method consists of creating a shortcut to the existing Show Desktop item. You can select another icon for the shortcut. The problem is to find an appropriate icon; perhaps a Google image search will yield one.
