Cannot open Help File (Win XP Pro sp1)

When I pull down the help menu a blank window opens up, if I try to double click the .chm help file directly I get an error message saying -

Cannot open the file: mk: @MSITStore:<help file path/name>

I looked in the MSKB and found article 312456 that talks about replacing the hhctrl.ocx file in Win 98 but I'm running Win XP Pro.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Updating to Windows XP SP-2 may help.

You can download M's Diagnostics from Helpware Downloads. It checks whether HTML help is installed and registered correctly.

Otherwise, you might see if installing the patch from Download details: Windows XP Patch: Enabling Applications to Access HTML Help in a New, Restricted Mode solves the problem.

Updating to sp2 is not an option, it's a corporate install and some of sp2's security fixs conflict with their security software so they pick and chose what updates they run.

I downloaded and ran MJ's diag though, used it to re-register things and that seems to have helped. I can open help files now.

    Thanks!
