New XP user account with max resources (xp sp2)

I am running XP home SP2. I have an Artec T1 USB TV card which is excellent, but requires a lot of system resources. What I would like to do is setup a NEW user account that does not load all my normal startup services (like avast, zone alarm, roboform, etc....), which I can use when using the TV card.
If I create a new account and then logon to it and stop all the services from starting it works fine - BUT when switching back to my normal user account - all the services have stopped on that too !!
I'm sure that when creating a new user account in Win98SE it allowed you to create a new account without copying current user settings ?
Has anybody else achieved this - I'm sure there must be a simple solution.

With XP soft software is automatically installed for all users. I'd suspect that a/v and firewall software in particular are this way. Other software asks if it is for the current user or all users. Don't remember what roboform does. Still more should ask but doesn't. So, if you stop a service that is for all users then it will be stopped for all users. You could put together a couple of batch runstreams. One to stop services with a "NET STOP service-name". The other to start services with "NET START servicename". Run the batch file as needed.

If you were running XP Pro I'd suggest setting up a profile and then using Group Policy Editor to disable the functions you don't want running for just that account. However, GPE is only available in XP Pro so it's not an option for you. But, a bit of Googleing turned up this site that might provide you with the registry edits necessary to do the same thing in XP Home. The site proports to list the same registry changes made by the GPE in XP Pro to do the same things in XP Home. I haven't tried any of them as I run XP Pro, but it might be what you are looking for. Just remember to back up any and all data that you care about before making any system changes. HTH <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Try to create Hardware Profile instead of user profile. See http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...ile_create.mspx for details.

You can disable all unwanted devices in the new profile.

If you want some services (applications) start on one user profile and not on any other, move corresponding keys in the Registry from

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionRun
    to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionRun

Remember, if you move, for example, Antivirus, it will not start automatically on any new user account!
