    Grouping Templates (Excel2000>)

Here is a nice way to group any templates into categories other than General and Spreadsheet Solutions.

    1. Navigate to the MS templates folder... usually found at "Application DataMicrosoftTemplates".
    2. Create new folders in this directory. (The name of the new folder becomes a tab in the FILE | NEW dialog.)
    3. Place your custom template files into these folders to categorize them accordingly.

PS: The file type DOES NOT have to be *.xlt. Even *.xls files saved into the templates folder will open a copy of the workbook if you access them by choosing FILE | NEW and double clicking on the icon for that file.
    Regards,
    Rudi

    Additional remarks:

    1. This tip is also valid for Word and PowerPoint (and Access).
    2. Folders within the Templates folder will become tabs in the New dialog.
    3. Creating subfolders of these folders won't work - all templates in the subfolders will be displayed in the tab corresponding to the parent folder directly under Templates.

Also creating a shortcut to a folder containing templates will show a new tab containing the templates files.

    Enjoy,
