Monitor not responding when I start the computer

    <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15> Hi there,
When I press the start button on the computer, it seems to start , but no peep signal and the monitor not showing any response. I have to switch the computer OFF then ON a couple of times before I hear the peep signal and see the booting screen on the monitor. My Operating system is Win XP Home edition-SP2.
Your help will be much appreciated

Re: Monitor not responding when I start the computer

Hi Michael, welcome to the Lounge. Can you try something for me? When you switch the computer on, try holding the power button for a second before releasing it, then tell me if that stops the problem.

I've seen this a few times and that usually works. I think the problem may be dust causing a poor connection or reduced voltage and the extra few-tenths of a second seem to make a difference.

Thanks for your suggestion Lyra. I actually tried it and it seems to work (or I imagine so ) occasionally, but not every time. I keep the start button pressed in for few seconds before releasing it.
