Re: SpywareBlaster update

I hadn't noticed the install recommendation on the site before, so I'll add it here in case anyone else missed it too:

o Run the existing version
o Click "Disable All Protection"
o Close program
o Uninstall existing program using Add/ Remove Software in Control Panel
o Install new version
o Click "Enable All Protection"

No need to check for updates first - the package contains the most recent one.

Alan,

Where did you see the install recommendation ?? I downloaded a copy and saved it to my archives (as is my habit for all new programs I'm installing) and then downloaded another copy and let it "Run" and install itself. It went off without a hitch. My version # is 3.3 and it updated without any trouble (no updates online but 2 new threats to block after install. No mention of any conflict or problem if previous versions were not removed. I seem to recall this being an issue with their last version update, but thought they had resolved that.

Re: SpywareBlaster update

Thanks Joe. From what I read at Wilders' it can work both ways, but I think it's probably best to follow the proceedure and disable and uninstall the old version and will do that next time. I don't seem to have any "issues" related to doing the install "incorrectly" but I'll keep an eye on things and post back if I do.

Re: SpywareBlaster update

Besides the links already mentioned, if you start SpywareBlaster 3.2 and let it look for updates, you'll get a message that 3.3 has been released, with this link: SpywareBlaster Update Available. This page mentions the recommendation to uninstall etc.

Right again Hans! That's where I saw it, and that's why I couldn't find it again - that page doesn't appear to be (obviously) actively linked to the main pages on the site.

Re: SpywareBlaster update

That would explain why I never saw it. I followed Joes link in his original post and the download link on that page took me to this page to get the DL from a mirror. I chose the Primary Major Geeks site and there was no mention of the clean install requirement there either. But, at least for me, it was a moot point, because the DL: & install went off without a problem and I have 3.3 running and fully updated. Go figure

Re: SpywareBlaster update

All I can think of is that it's their "standard" procedure. If, for instance, they come up with a better way to block XYZ, but the older method is still in the registry, the unprotect/ reprotect would allow it to be updated?

Re: SpywareBlaster update

Makes sense to me. But also seems that a few lines of code in the installation program could do that for you and keep the biggest cause of trouble (the user ) out of the equation.
