In crisis mode on a project (XL 2003)

First, I am working with someone else's models. I am linking data from one worksheet cell into another. however, when I enter the cell reference from the source cell it returns the formula in the destination cell. further, if I edit the source cell (F2, etc) it too will now return the formula. View under tools menu is NOT set to return the formula.

    Welcome to Woody's unge!

Check the number format of the cells involved. If it is set to Text, anything you enter, including formulas, will be displayed as you enter it.

thank you for the prompt reply! Have done this before posting, Some of the data being linked is text and some is numeric. each is formatted as such on both the source and destination cells.

Could you post a zip file with stripped down versions of the workbooks? Leave just enough to demonstrate the problem, and remove or replace sensitive information.

Sometimes, clearing the formatting can be difficult. On the result cells, I would select them, hit Edit-Clear-All. Save the file, then re-enter your linking formulas. If the result is text, you don't have to format the cell as text---you can format the cells as numbers, but text will still show. That is, unless you have some bizarre layout. Cells B5:B20, B33:B57 and C6:C32 in the Roll up worksheet are formatted as Text, so if you enter a formula in one of those cells, the formula text will be displayed. Same for B4:C18 in the Revenue by Project worksheet.
