Corrupt db

    Hi

I've got a corrupt Access 97 db that I have tried to fix using the Jetcomp utility. This gives me another database with just one table called MsysCompactError, which appears to be some sort of error log.

Is this correct and if so what do I do with this??

    TIA

Do you have a backup copy of the database? Can you create a new database and import objects from the bad one? If not and if JetComp failed, I'm afraid you're in for a rebuild. If this is a mission critical database, there are some recovery services out there that may be able to extract some of the data from it, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

    Hold Up!

The VBA code (not sure if this is the problem since we don't have much detail) may be causing the problem.

Before paying someone to repair your database, have you tried decompiling the database?

If you don't already have one, create a shortcut on your desktop that points to the corrupted database and place this in the Target: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficemsaccess.exe" "C:YourDatabaseDirectoryYourDatabase.mdb" /decompile

Replace "YourDatabaseDirectory" and "YourDatabase" with the appropriate information.

Once that's set up double click the shortcut and follow the instructions.

    Post back with any questions.

If what I described above or what Charlotte provided doesn't help then she's correct. That is, your database is probably hosed for good.

Thanks - I tried that but all I got was either the original error message about the db needing repairing or the following message "Records(s) can't be read; no permission on "MSysModules2". Looks like it's hosetime....

    AdeH,

Is this database secured? If so, put this in the Target: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficemsaccess.exe" "C:YourDatabaseDirectoryYourDatabase.mdb" /decompile "C:YourDatabaseDirectoryYourSecurityFile.mdw"

The part after decompile points to the security file wherever it resides (if it's on a network then obviously it won't be on your C drive). You'll have to log into the database as the administrator so you have full access.

Try that if you haven't already and see if you can get into the database. If you still can't try and import all of the tables, et al into a blank database.
