    Message stays in Outbox (2003)

    I am using Outlook 2003 with Windows XP, service pack 2 on a dial up connection.

    I have several problems related to messages not leaving the Outbox.

    Do you have multiple accounts set up? For example, do you retrieve mail from an address of an old dial-up provider but connect to the Internet using a cable or DSL connection? If so, you may have a very common problem, which is that replies generally are sent back using the settins for the account under which they were retrieved. You need to change the outgoing (SMTP) server settings for that account to match your current cable/DSL account settings, otherwise various security mechanisms will ignore your request to send the message. Alternately, you can manually choose your new account by using the Accounts drop-down button next to the Send button, before sending the message.

    If that doesn't help, well, nothing else comes to mind.

    Thank you for the reply. I only have one email account so unfortunately I need a different solution.
