    How to delete registry entry?

Howdy all. I need to delete some registry entries relating to an uninstalled piece of hardware that I believe are causing conflicts. When I press delete, and then okay, I get a message that says the registry key can't be deleted. I've already tried to delete it in safe mode, & safe mode with command prompt, with the same result. Can anyone tell me how to do so?? Thanks in advance.

    Mike.

A bit more detail about the hardware and what registry entries you are trying to remove would be helpful. You might also take a look here for a brief tutorial, some how-tos and <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> tools for tweaking the registry and removing entries.

Howdy Doc. Thanks for the info. Sorry I couldn't get back to ya sooner - been working a lot of OT, and when I could get online, I couldn't get far enough to send a reply without a BSOD nailing me. The hardware was a Lucent/Orinoco Gold wireless card. The first reg. entry that comes up (there's more than one) is this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001EnumPCMCIALuc ent_Technologies-WaveLAN/IEEE-C908. There's also several from a reg. search for 'Lucent'. Any help will be appreciated, and thanks again for the help you've already given.

    Take care,
    Mike.

Have you looked for the card in Device Manager ?? If you find an entry for it there try removing or uninstalling it from there and then checking to see if that removes the registry entry ??

Good idea, Doc. I hadn't thought of that. Tried it, with no luck. No such entry. I'll go back to your previous suggestion, and try downloading one of the free reg. cleaners, and see where that leads me. Thanks again.

    Take care,
    Mike.

Be careful if you go fooling around with the registry. You can turn your machine into a doorstop without breathing hard if you make the wrong change there. Be sure to backup any data you care about (and probably any you don't care about too) before you do any work or make any changes to your system.
