Deleting items From the Address bar (Ver 6 Sp 2)

    Hello,

Is there anyway to delete individual line items from the Address Bar? I type in certain address, and I would like to delete some that I longer wish to see, but I want to leave the ones that I still use. I do not wish to add any of these sites to my favorites.

    Thanks,

    Mark,

Have a look at the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> EditURLs - Edit the URL Address Dropdown List for Internet Explorer.

    Hi Joe:

Is there a URL cleaner for Netscape also.

Don't know. Try searching Google or your favorite search engine.

On some versions Tools|Options|Privacy|History|Clear may work. It would clear both the URL dropdown list and the contents of the History Sidebar. HTH

Joe - along the lines of your EditURL applet to edit the "Internet Explorer" Address Bar, I use the "Windows" Address Bar - the one on the taskbar at the bottom of the page. Some times I fat-finger something and it stays until I clear all history. Have you, or anyone else, seen an editor for the Windows Address Bar so I can just edit individual URLs?

Can't you display the History, then right click any individual item and delete it?

No. That would sure be nice - but you can't - at least not on XPP or XPHome.

Do you mean the address bar in Windows Explorer?

Down on the taskbar, between the Start button and Notification/System Tray, if you right click on a bare spot and hit toolbars, you can select Address (along with Quicklaunch or Desktop) to add an address bar to the taskbar. It is partially independent from IE's address bar - I say partially because when you add it, you will also get the Go button (which I don't like) down there as well. To remove that Go button, you must deselecting it from IE's toolbars, then add "Address" to the Windows/Desktop taskbar.

Once there, you can enter urls (paste or type), then launch those sites without opening your browser first.

I think all these address bars contribute to the IE History. You should be able to use IE or Windows Explorer to edit the History entries. If they are typed URLs won't EditUrls work?

Re: Deleting items From the Address bar (Ver 6 Sp

Nope - they are not the same list - so EditUrls does not see those entries. The only way I know to take a single "valid" entry out is to go to

    HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer RunMRU

then you will see the list - not it is under Explorer and not IE - which has its own MRU list elsewhere.

Now here's the bad part - if an invalid url, it will not be listed - I cannot find the fat-fingered version in the Registry anywhere - I don't know where that is stored.

If you want to take the time you might be able to track it down by using Regmon & Filmon at Sysinternals Freeware.
