    using WLLs (97 - 2003)

    I would like to hear the thoughts of others about the use of WLLs over COM addins or in the case of Office 2003 in place of .NET office components. I feel WLLs and XLLS should not be used in widely distrubuted Word or Excel based applications because one it appears MS does not support these any longer, C++ is not an easy language to develop addins in, and there isn't much documentation on their use for developers to reference.

    I believe COM Add-ins were intended to obsolete WLLs. I don't know enough about WLL development to know how they compare. One advantage might be that a single COM Add-in can handle multiple Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), which might help with deployment of applications that work across the suite.
