Word97 Includetext field and Bookmarked text

Unless I've missed it in my search, there's no EASY way in Word97 to generate an {IncludeText} with the file and bookmark.

I'm composing a target document that needs chunks of text from several other source documents. Each of those source documents has bookmarked text. Everything is in place. In my target document I have the headings ready, and now .....

I want to select my text location, immediately after a heading, and then browse the hard drive until I locate a source file, and then browse the bookmarks within that file until I get a thumbnail skecth of the appropriate text so I can exclaim "THAT'S what I want!", click "OK" and have the {Includetext sourcefile bookmark} dropped in place.

I think it can't be done in Word97 (without a user macro).

Can it be done in Office2000? XP?

    Hi Chris,

Can't be done in Word 2000 (or 97) so far as I know. Very annoying! If you know the name of the bookmark you can do it, otherwise you have to edit the field after you add the file.

Re: Word97 Includetext field and Bookmarked text

I realized later that just about everything was in place in Customizer, a utility I wrote for producing training manuals. So I added a "Thumbnail" command button which does the trick.

I might try to find a less cumbersome way of doing it, but at least it works for now.
