Shortcut to 'Page Setup' (XP SP3)

Quite by accident I discovered that double-clicking in the left margin area (which normally selects a paragraph) will bring up the Page Setup dialog if the mouse is positioned either above or below the text area (i.e. where the header or footer would be if you had one). (Of course if there is a header (or footer) adjacent to where you click then instead of page setup you get the header/footer opening.)

Now this may be old hat to many of you, but I've never seen this documented and I was wondering whether there are other mouse shortcuts that are similarly unknown to all but the Word cognoscenti??

You already know that clicking in the left margin selects a line, and clicking twice selects a paragraph. Did you know that clicking three times in the margin selects the entire document?

If you keep down Alt while dragging the mouse, you can select a rectangular area (instead of selecting lines and paragraphs).

    Several!
If you are in normal view (View / Normal) and have the style area visible (Tools / Options / View / Style Area Width set somewhere around .5") and double click the style name the Modify Style box will appear.

If you have rulers visible (View / Rulers) and double click the white area of the ruler you will get the tab dialog.

If you double click the gray area of the ruler you will get the Page Setup dialog.

If you double click a word, you will select the word.

If you triple click a word, you will select the paragraph.

Ctrl + click selects the sentence.

Alt + click and drag is the column select (e.g. you can select text vertically) -- release when you get to the end of the selection.

Alt + double-click will select from pointer to beginning of word

Alt + triple-click will column select from pointer to left margin, up to top of paragraph

Ctrl+Alt+Click will select from pointer to beginning of sentence.

Ctrl+Click (in Word XP and above) allows for non-contiguous selection (a/k/a multi-select)

Shift+Click selects from current cursor position to pointer location
This should give you some to play around with. I actually prefer keyboard shortcuts. I hate the

Those are documented on the Word help - what intrigued me about the page-setup thing is that there seems to be no mention of it in the Help (at least not that I could see...)

For a mouse-o-phobe you have taken Sun-Tzu's advice to heart and know your enemy well!! Likewise, I prefer the keyboard shortcuts - must be something to do with the grey hair (mine, not yours) and the ingrained habits of originally using mainframes and then MS/PC-DOS!

As for double-clicking the white area of the ruler, I get two different responses - the tab dialog if I click the bottom-half of the ruler, and the page-setup dialog if I click the top half.

Also, double-clicking the indent markers brings up the format-paragraph dialog. Text/word/paragraph/block selections are pretty well-documented, but the ruler tricks don't seem to rate a mention in the help file - were the help authors mouse-phobic or simply not informed...

    Thanks for the responses.

Double clicking in the area to the right of the toolbars brings up the Customize dialog.

Aha! A multi-lingual click as that one works in other Office programs as well (Excel and Publisher are two I've tried)
