    16 bit MSDOS Subsystem Error (WInXP-Pro SP/2)

While booting up I get the following 16 bit MSDOS Subsystem error:

c:windows=instal~1AC7684!1SC-ACR~1.exe. The NTVDW CPU has encoundered an illegal instruction (an address is insterted here). Chose close to terminate the application.

Anyone have an idea how I can stop this error....this started about two days ago and occurs every time I boot up.....any help would be appreciated......

Have you run a full A/V scan? Have you run a full malware scan?

The following article from Microsoft may assist - Troubleshooting MS-DOS-based programs in Windows XP

Re: 16 bit MSDOS Subsystem Error (WInXP-Pro SP/2)

I ran NAV and Spysweeper with no success in getting rid of the error. After checking out the MS article I still didn't find a problem so I uninstalled the program Startup Faster and that appeared to get rid of the error popup....will have to go back to a snail boot I guess...;anyhow, thanks for the response as it helped narrow where the problem might be.....

If the intent of Startup Faster was to control the order and timing of startup progams check out r2 studios - startup delayer. I use it at home with no problems.
