    Which Taskbar Repair (XP SP2)

I like the taskbar in the wide position but lately it keeps resizing itself to the single line. I have checked for trojans etc, locked/unlocked the taskbar, and disabled anything unnecessary in msconfig. When the PC boots, I can see the fat taskbar flash on the screen and immediately shrink down to the single line. I downloaded the taskbar repair kit from Kelly's Korner but can't figure out which one (if any) will solve my problem. Is it a taskbar problem or a quick launch problem?

    TIA

If you unlock the taskbar, resize it, and lock the taskbar does it stay the correct size until you re-boot? If this a single or multiple user machine?

    Joe,
this is a single user machine and yes, if I resize the taskbar it stays put until I boot again. And even if the toolbar is locked, rebooting will size it back to the default skinny taskbar.

And this is a real re-boot and not just a logoff and back on? Does the 'saving your settings' message appear?

Yes, either a real reboot or a logoff/on produces the same results. And the "save your settings" message does appear.

What happens if you disable the quick launch bar?

    Joe,
The taskbar still shrinks if I disable the quick launch bar. I tried it with the taskbar locked and unlocked. There are 2 "fixes" at Kelly's Korner that might help. One is Restore to XP Default and the other is Lock Size and Position . Do you think that after using Restore I would then be able to tweak it the way I like?

If indeed it does restore to the XP default then yes you should be able to size it as you wish.
