    Spybot S&D beta 2 update

Users of this will be well aware that it had a problem where around ten bits of malware were listed on each scan, and even though you 'fix'ed them each time, they were still present on the next scan.

You will be pleased to note that the latest update to the detection rules fixes this problem, so now you are given "Congratulations! [that] No immediate threats were found". <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16> <img src=/S/fanfare.gif border=0 alt=fanfare width=31 height=23>

Re: Spybot S&D beta 2 update

I don't know about any beta 2 update, but there was a problem like this with the regular Spybot S & D release, which now seems to have been fixed with the regular updates. I now regularly get the 'Congratulations, no immediate problems were found' message when I run a scan, after weeks of the same 5 'threats' coming up each time.

    (I notice a lot of regulars in this post - I must be a real regular guy.) <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I don't believe I ever experienced that behaviour. And I'm sure I maintained my setup with the latest releases, including betas ???

Yes they were, and the updates do seem to have sorted out that problem. (I'm on version 1.3.)

All I can say is that you have been fortunate in not having these annoyances present on your PC!

Having had the infamous DSO Exploit sorted out some time back (another example of something that continued 'fix' commands didn't fix), it was frustrating to have this bunch of stuff come up every time I ran Spybot. They didn't do anything -- they were just there...

Edited by Bigaldoc to add POST tag. See the Markup Help.

    Ian,
Were the five 'threats' you mentioned DSO Exploits by any chance? If so, I raised a question re these back in November (<post#=426490>post 426490</post#>) - Bill Bright gave me a very useful and detailed explanation (<post#=426711>post 426711</post#>) and indicated that the 'anomalies' would probably be picked up and corrected in subsequent Spybot updates - looks like they have!
Since turning on Spybot's Teatimer/Resident program I've also begun to experience the 'congratulations no immediate problems were found' messages following scans! However, I then run Ad-Aware and always find at least 2 or 3 tracking cookies that Spybot didn't pick up!
