Toolbar Icon in Excel (Office 2003)

    Morning

I have included an icon on the "Formatting" toolbar in Excel (the template is stored in XLStart). When Excel is run the "Formatting" toolbar appears with a blank icon at the end of the toolbar. It will only become visible when I pass my cursor over the blank icon.

Has anyone come across this issue before? For your information, if I create a new toolbar with the icon the icon is visible.

    Many thanks
    Jack

Does this behaviour persist if you delete the toolbar button and create a new one (on the Formatting toolbar)?

BTW, weren't you "Jack 21" before?

    Morning Hans

The icon is being deleted when the application closes and created on opening. I have set the button up with an icon and then with text and in both cases it only becomes visible when I run the cursor over the blank space on the toolbar. I have never seen this behaviour before but I have never placed an icon on an existing Microsoft toolbar.

You are correct, I was Jack21 - I had my PC upgraded and lost my cookies, I did send an email on Friday to Woody's for a new password but did not get a reply (probably as it was the weekend) so have now come back as a "new joiner". I came to the conclusion that I could not live without Woody's !!

Could you post the code you use to create the toolbar button?

PS If you go to http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/login.pl?Cat= (while not logged in to the Lounge, not right now!), there will be a button "I forgot my password".

    Morning Hanz

As requested, please find attached the Excel Template (this template is stored in XLStart).

In connection with Login, I did try a number of scenarios on the "I forgot my password" page but no joy unfortunately, hence I set myself up as a new user.

Re: Toolbar Icon in Excel (Office 2003)

The toolbar button is OK when I create a new workbook from the template in Excel 2002 SP-3, so perhaps this is specific to Excel 2003.

By the way, since your template is named Book.xlt and is stored in XLSTART, it will add the code and toolbar button to each new workbook you create. Wouldn't it be more efficient to store the code in Personal.xls?

Another remark: the code to delete the toolbar button can be simplified to

    Public Sub RemoveToolbar()
    On Error Resume Next
    Application.CommandBars("Formatting").Controls("-ve").Delete
    End Sub

I added the template to my XLSTART directory and started Excel 2003 SP-1 several times, the toolbar button always appeared.

Seeing that others don't have the problem you describe I would try to remove your toolbar customisation file. It is called Excel11.xlb and shoul dbe located somewhere around:

From Tony55's reply, it seems the problem is not in Excel 2003. See if <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in XL,290455>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in XL<!/post> helps.

Re: Toolbar Icon in Excel (Office 2003)

    Hi Jan

I went through the process of deleting the Excel11.xlb and the toolbar worked correctly, but obviously as soon I run Excel again the icon vanished .... very strange, does appear that the creation of the Excel11.xlb seems to be impacting the toolbar !!

Re: Toolbar Icon in Excel (Office 2003)

I confirm your problem. With My Excel 2003, the same happens as you have described.

I tried a different caption for the button and the problem went away. It even worked with "-Neg" as the new caption. Go figure.

Re: Toolbar Icon in Excel (Office 2003)

    Thanks Jan.

Have changed the text on the icon to "-Neg" and it works .... that makes absolutely no sense. I know this is going to play on my mind for days now !!!!
