    Conditional Formatting (Excel 2003)

I am working on a work schedule. I need to have a person's name in each cell which represents an hour. The spreadsheet looks very busy once it is filled in though. So I have decided to only list the person's name at the start of the shift & end of shift. The hours between should have the person's name in white and hopefully put an arrow or asterisk in cell. I was trying to use conditional formatting to look at the cell above and below to determine if the text should be white. However, I could not get it to look at both cells. In the attached example you will see Tim's name in B1...B8. I only want to display his name in black in cells B1 and B8. The reason of having white text, is because I am also doing a count of how many hours each employee is working, so the name has to appear in each cell in order to be counted. Does any one have any ideas to accomplish this task?

Select B2:B9 (or as far down as needed).
    Select Format | Conditional Formatting...
Select Formula Is from the first dropdown.
Enter =AND(B2=B1,B2=B3) in the box next to it.
    Click Format...
    Specify white as font color.
    Click OK twice.

    Maybe,

    =(B2=B1)*(B2=B3)

Worked beautifully. I can use a pattern of dots or line to "draw" between the start & finish of a shift. Thanks for all of your help!
