PST File Locations (MSO 2003)

Is there any reason, theoretical, realistic, or pragmatic why I should or should not keep my "My Documents" folder(s) on a separate drive from the Windows default programs drive? By doing so, I could put it on a smaller, say 2 gig, drive, that I could then back up daily to dvd using Ghost (or some competitor). That would make backing up all the data parts of my system a breeze, and therefore more "secure".

The question you ask in the body of your post is different from the one indicated by the subject. The location of your .pst file is independent of the location of My Documents.

You're right, the question was a bit different... I think of all these as one, as they are all, to me, "My Documents". I'll try to be more careful.

Is there a way to have the entire "Documents and Settings" to another dirve?

You can move large chunks of Documents & Settings to other drives - although not all of it. If you concentrate on My Documents, Application Data (the main one directly under [username]) and the Temp and Temporary Internet Files folders in Local Settings (but not the entire Local Settings folder), you find you'll have moved the largest part of the folder. HTH

But where do you alert MSO that you've moved the Application DataMicrosoftOutlook data? That's one of those that is a critical piece in backups for me, and so is one I was looking to move...
