    Insert Won't

When I get Email that I want to save, I usually highlight the text I want and hit Control + "C." Then I bring up my Word processor and hit Insert + Insert to copy the text. However, lately this feature has stopped. I can no longer copy material like this from my Email program. Any ideas about what I need to do to get this feature to work again?

What email program? Have you updated it recently? Have you tried CTRL + V to insert the text?

In general, Ctrl+V can be used to paste in (almost) any Windows application.

In Microsoft Word, there is an option to use Insert to paste, in the Edit tab of Tools | Options... Could it be that this setting has changed from on to off?

My Email is IncrediMail. I haven't upgraded in a month or so. However, the Shift + Insert was working until just a day or two ago. I use TextPad and Word Perfect 12, but neither one will accept when I highlight something in IncrediMail. I guess I'll go and see if there is an upgrade and if not, see if they know why this feature has stopped working. Yes, I even tried Control + "V," but that doesn't work either. It all stopped a few days ago. I have installed Quick-Fix recently, but not sure that is the problem.

It may not be the pasting that is the problem, but the copying in the first place. Rather than using CTRL+C, try right-clicking on the text & selecting 'Copy', then pasting the same way, see if that makes any difference.

    Re: Insert Won't

Have you tried selecting the text, then pressing Ctrl+Ins, then going to Word, positioning the cursor, and pressing Shift+Ins?

This should be the same as doing Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, of course...

As Lyra says, there may be a problem with the selecting/cutting of text, so having selected the text you want and cut/saved it, bring up Paint (Start => All Programs => Accessories => Paint) and try Edit => Paste, to see if you get anything. If Paste is greyed-out, you don't have anything to paste...

    Re: Insert Won't

That's my problem. When I go to "Edit" and click on "Copy" then go to Notepad, TextPad, or Word Perfect, the "Paste" is greyed out, indicating that nothing I do will allow me to copy the text out of an Email. I'm not sure what has happened to IncrediMail. I have written them to ask, but haven't heard from them yet. Thanks for your help.

    Re: Insert Won't

As an alternative (rather messy) solution, have you tried replying to the email you want to save (including the original text), then copying from that? Once you've copied the text you need, cancel the email you're now writing. I see no reason why that shouldn't work.

If you're able to highlight text, I wonder if something has happened to your Windows Clipboard's functioning. Have you tried, after highlighting some text and pressing Ctrl-C, running the Windows Clipboard (Clipbook) Viewer to see if you can really see the text in there? On my Win XP Pro the program is: C:WINDOWSsystem32clipbrd.exe.

    Re: Insert Won't

I contacted Incredimail. They informed me that there was a problem between their program and Mozilla FireFox Browser. It seems that if I have not made FireFox my defult browser, I can copy stuff. When I have FireFox as my default browser, that's when I have the problem. So, now I am trying to get IE6 to be my default browser, but although I go into IE6 Tools and options to do so, nothing happens. I can't seem to change back from FireFox to IE6.

There isn't anything in the clipboard. Of course FireFox is still my default browser which I am trying to get out of and get back to IE6.

Do you have the 'Internet Explorer should check to see...' box at the bottom of the Tools | Internet Options | Programs?

    Re: Insert Won't

Well, the "messy" way works. I had to reset the option in IncrediMail to put the recipient's email in my reply, but once I did that, I could copy it. Thanks. If I can't figure out how to make IE6 my default browser again, I'll just use the "messy" solution. Thanks.
