PPT Close on Exit Link (97 SR-1)

Giving PPT a try. Creating a main menu presentation with links to other presentations for product categories...then as each product category presentation plays out automatically and/or manually, each product links to a 3rd presentation with sound and description, etc. My problem is this leaves all the presentations open. Perhaps I'm going about it all wrong. Anyway, I need to know how to go from one presentation to another, leaving the menu open, but closing each additional presentation upon clicking a link to return to any other presentation. == I'm not a power user, but have some MS Office experience and understanding of programming, including some web page fun. So lay it on me, but don't be surprised if I go cross-eyed a little. <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

"Is there a reason why these need to be separate presentations?"

No. I'd be perfectly happy to have it all in one file.

"...you simply jump to a separate set of slides"

Silly as it sounds...how do I do that? Not sure how to create "sets of slides" within a single presentation. Probably so obvious it hurts. LOL

Addendum. My reasoning revolved around having parts of the presentation (i.e.-sets and/or individual slides) with sound and parts without.

Welcome to Woody's Lounge - we think you'll find it a friendly place to get answers to many of your computing questions.

Is there a reason why these need to be separate presentations? I no longer have Office 97 installed on any of my computers, so I can't do any testing or even view the help files for that version, but I believe PPT97 supported a limited version of the custom shows feature that exists in later versions. In that approach you simply jump to a separate set of slides (or a presentation) and then return to the main, all in one window. A question that should be asked is whether you are doing this to various audiences where you or another person is actually making the presentation, or is it a kiosk type of presentation that is self run by an inquiring person?

Try playing with the Custom show option. You can group your slides into any order, regardless of their order in the presentation.
Then use the Set Up Show option to pick the Custom Show you want to display.
You'll find both menu choices under the Slide Show menu.

    Cheers

Thank you Catherine. I'll give that a try.
