    IF formula (XP)

I need help with, I suppose, an IF formula
In my workbook I have 4 columns
    a - b - c - d when I write the simple formula a1 - b1 - c1 = d1 but it doesn't work. There is an amount in either A or B but always in C because when the amount is in column B it creates a negative result.
Where do I start with an IF formula ??

    Thanks
    Caitlin

What exactly is the calculation you want to perform?

    Re: IF formula (XP)

The following will work as long as the a/b relationship is mutually exclusive. E.g., in any row given row a and b cannot contain a value. If I understood your question correctly, the formula is being placed in column D.

    =(IF(A1 > 0,A1,B1)-C1)
