Installing Office 2003 (Office 2003)

I have office 2003 on my workstation. I am told that I can also put it on my laptop, that 2 installs are allowed by Microsoft. Is this true? I don't want to try it if it will not work and I mess up my computer. thank you, John

The End User License Agreements for the retail version of Office states:
1.1 Installation and use. You may:
(a) install and use a copy of the Software on one personal computer or other device; and
( install an additional copy of the Software on a second, portable device for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the Software.

The EULA for the Students & Teachers versions:
1.1 Installation and use. You may install a copy of the Software on three personal computers or other devices in your household for non-commercial use by people who reside in your household.

For OEM versions it can only be installed on the original computer that it came with.

Also note that the promotional packages are for a single machines and can not be activated on a second machine. These are the ones that MS gives out at the different shows.

I am right in my understanding with the EOM version that it can only be installed on the PC which it is purchased with?

That is CORRECT, OEM installs ONLY on the machine it came with.

OEM software license restrictions seems to have become something of a joke. Some discount software sites now sell it along with a piece of hardware (included in the price) that you insert into your computer to meet the bundling requirements. I have no idea what that free piece of hardware might be, but almost certainly it isn't going to fit into my laptop. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

In the case of the OEM Office 2003 I bought, the free hardware was a mouse which I promptly tossed. The sw works fine, registered fine, no problems.
