    REALbasic 5.5

For a limited period you can get a copy of REALbasic, an alternative to Visual Basic, free of charge.

The following is taken from REAL Software website

REALbasic is a full-featured software design environment easily suited to creating all kinds of applications, from utilities to enterprise-class applications. REALbasic is highly compatible with Visual Basic and includes a utility to help migrate existing Visual Basic applications.

Because Microsoft has ended support for Visual Basic 6, REAL Software is offering Visual Basic users a new home-REALbasic. From now through April 15, 2005, Visual Basic users can get REALbasic 5.5 for Windows Standard Edition, completely free of charge.

Looks like a great offer, Tony.
But I don't get the significance of the license terms:

    Terms of This Free Offer:

Offer good for Visual Basic users only.

How would they know? Why should they care?
Or is it just obscure wording trying to indicate something else?

    Re: REALbasic 5.5

Though the terms state "Offer good for Visual Basic users only" there is no check made to see if VB6 is installed. They are relying on your word that you have VB6, though the ultimate goal appears to be generating sales.

They will be releasing REALbasic 2005 in a few weeks and the free licence can not be used to upgrade to the new version. It appears to be a similar marketing ploy to the companies that give away old versions of their software on magazine coverdiscs with the intention of generating sales for the new version.

    Gee, I almost missed this, not visiting this board very often. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

There are some things I write in Word VBA that have no business being there, just my familiarity the the environment. It will be interesting to try to port them to a true compiled application. If I get some free time!
