    Net.exe (XP v2002 SP2)

I have a system called SVI-Island Pacific (a Retail merchandising system) that runs from an IBM AS400.
It uses a GUI front end that can only be used when net.exe (and sometimes cmd.exe) is ended in Task Manager.
Ideally I would prefer that I dont end these on a daily basis in order to gain access to my system.
    Any ideas?

Do you get an error message? Or is anything logged in one of the Event Logs?

    Joe,

I get this message in Event Viwere. I don't know if it is linked.
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load.

NET.EXE is a command which runs in the Command Prompt window and then terminates. I have never seen it on the WIndows XP Task List as a resident command...

    John,

It's definately a process in Windows Task Manager. If I go into my program the egg timer comes up then nothing. When I end net.exe my program then suddenly appears.

Well, I ain't got one on XP Pro, and have never had (to the best of my knowledge)!

Do you know why NET.EXE gets run/started in the first place?

    Paul,

Have you run a full A/V scan? How about scans with Adaware, Spybot, MS AntiSpyware?

Scans don't get rid of it sadly.
My network engineers confirm that net.exe shouldn't be there and they have no idea why it pops up.

Are you sure all are up-to-date? Have you tried an online scan such as Trend Micro - Free online virus Scan and/or Zone Labs: Spyware scan? You could also use Sysinternals Freeware - Utilities for Windows NT and Windows 2000 - Autoruns to check out what is starting automatically on your machine.

Done all of this AND run Spybot (which picked up a few things).

    Cheers for trying longers!

Is net.exe executing immediately after you boot the system?
