File corrupting (2002 10.2614.2625)

I have a big project (big by my amateur standards, when I was using floppy discs it just fitted on one) which requires regular input of data then saving. Until recently I have always transferred it via flash memory to my laptop (same version and release) and occasionally saved it there and transferred it to the desktop, and then emailed it to my office (Excel 2000) as a further backup.

I now find that when I transfer it to the laptop it will not open; Excel tries to repair it but the names of my cells and arrays have invariably disappeared. Similarly when I email it to the office it will not open it and Excel simply reports "unable to open file".

Any ideas? It hasn't got any bigger and I haven't added any new variable.

It worked! Opening the file on the laptop with Calculation set to Manual or "Automatic except Tables" did the trick. I don't pretend to understand how or why, and I hope the same works at the office, but in any case I am grateful. Funny things, computers.

After managing to open the file, make sure you do the save-as html trick mentioned at the bottom of the page Hans referred to. It just may remove a possible corruption.
