Soory, I am new in this forum.
After many nmonths with IE5.0, and Outlook Express, I have, for the first time, when clicking on "Tools, Mail and News, read mail", received a DOS window (title "Finished - MSIMN") instead of my standard Outlook "read mail" window with Outlook express. The window is a DOS display rather than the normal windows window.
What have I (or my children) done differently?

The symptoms were different from that KB article.
I have checked those registry entries, and I've found no matching keys.

OK - check these. I know they are not giving the same error, but may point towards something.

Leif,
No joy in any of those, alas- but thanks.
I'll need to pick up my IE5 CD Rom from work and reinstall, I think.

Or you could download the latest version

Oh dear. This was just a little too late.
I called up the ISP, received a new CD rom with the latest software, did an install with repair (as instructed) and it still didn't work.
Next call- to uninstall. I did this. I saw about 50 new messages (not spam, from a mailing group- I wanted to see these messages)- but all my history was lost. It looked as if I was in IE4.
Another call- this time, to reinstall 5.0. All OK. I had my history- but the 50 messages I had opened up from IE4 were lost. The response from the ISP (one of Australia's biggest) was "sorry. they're lost".
Rene, I'll try your download suggestion- but tomorrow after some sleep. Thanks.

search your drive for mbx files - those 50 should be in an mbx. then get mbxtract from http://www.tomsterdam.com and extract them to your drive. drop into your OE mail folders and you'll have them back again.
Brilliant.
Thanks for your help.
