customising 'all entries' on autotext toolbar (Wd

(Edited by stuck on 11-Apr-05 09:15. added [pre] tags to make menu structure clearer)
I have a global template that holds a small number of autotext entries. If I view them on via the 'All Entries' button on the autotext toolbar they appear as a hierarchical list thus:

All Entries
    |_ Header/Footer
    | |_ autotext
    | |_ autotext
    |
    |_ Normal
    |_ autotext
    |_ autotext

I didn't create this structure, as far as I know Word 97 did it for me when I first created the global template ages ago. However now when I add new autotext entries (using Word 2000) they appear in the list at the 'root' level, i.e. under All Entries. How can I rearrange new entries them so they appear under the correct sub-heading (Normal or Header/Footer)? Alternatively, how do I create the autotext entries under the correct sub-heading on the toolbar in the first place?

AutoText entries normally are sorted by the style associated with the beginning of the entry, except for some preexisting categories that don't correspond to any styles I've ever heard of.

How are you adding the ones that don't go into any category? I typically select the text, then Insert>AutoText>AutoText, choose the template destination, edit the name, and click Add. I've never trusted other methods to predict where I want the entry saved.

Also, is there any chance your AutoText toolbar has been customized? Maybe it needs to be "reset" to its default controls?

I'm not sure where you're looking, but Autotext is usually categorised by the Style of the underlying paragraph, so if your text is formatted with a style called Header/Footer then it should be added to that group in your "hierarchy"

    Ah! Now I understand.
