Re: DoS Article/AdAware

Adaware is a useful little program we mentioned way back in February, this Forum. Along with a couple of others it can give you a decent protective suite which costs nothing at all. (Have a look on my website). However, Adaware is limited to removing only that spyware it knows about. You can also stop certain apps working if you remove their adware (e.g. Go!Zilla) - so use it with care.

Also check out the Outlook Express Forum for OE: Scary Experience 6th March.

Later.... PS Many thanks to my literary editor who neatened up the access to the messages mentioned. I've taken a copy of the URL so I can use the format in future.

Rgds

That's great. Maybe someone who didn't see the Feb post will see this one.

Re: AdAware 5.0

Thanks for that. The latest version I could get (4.6) found another 8 pieces of spyware in my cookies jar.
Don't you just love incremental upgrades?

Re: AdAware 5.0

I checked last night and Lavasoft says AA V5.0 is still in beta ... ?

(I can't check now from work because corporate systemwide internet security blocks the site. Apparently they don't like "soft.de" in there, there must be a lot of German porn sites. Reminds me that I was also blocked from reviewing a ski resort's adult private lesson rates presumably because of the word "adult"! How we are treated as children. On the other hand a guy in my division was discovered to have an extensive work-PC porn library after he left.)

Re: AdAware 5.0

Version 5 is up and running...I installed it this morning.
I forgot to uninstall 4.6, I kept getting same stuff on the site. Then I re-read instructions..uninstalled 4.6 and then installed version 5.

AdAware 5.5b is available here. Although their site says that this is still beta version, it seems to work fine for me.

Michael,

Thanks for posting that link. I'm on GRC's mailing list, but that one didn't get to me. I got ZoneAlarm after his LeakTest came out, and I've felt much safer ever since. It occasionally gets annoying to have such a thorough firewall running on my PC, but it's worth the annoyance to keep zombies like that off my laptop.
