    validate (excel with xp)

I am trying to figure out how to make sure that a cell has an entry. That the cell is not blank or null and that at least something was entered. And if possible being able to display an error message if nothing was entered.

Also, is it possible to have an error message displayed when using conditional formatting like you can when using data validation.

    Thank you.

Not sure when you want to test for a blank cell.

Datavalidation can not be made to require an entry. A blank is always valid. You would have to use code in some way...

Conditional formats only formats a cell (you could color the cell to indicate that it is blank) it does not put put messages.

You could have a textbox and have the text for the text box linked to a separate cell that determines if the cell of interest is blank.

For example if you want a message if A1 is blank, in another cell (could be on another sheet) enter the formula:
    =if(isblank(a1),"A1 must not be blank","")

Then create a textbox linked to this "other cell". If A1 is blank, it will have a message, if not blank it will be null and you won't see any message...
