Registry access (XP Home SP2)

Error message: Could not write value to key Software. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key. (This was when trying to install a Service Release.)

All other programs have no such trouble, and the program in question, PaperPort 10, is listed in that section of the registry. I guess access to a key is the part I don't understand, and I don't know what to look for or how to fix it.

Run REGEDIT, find (in the left-hand pane) the key you are interested it, right-click on it and select Permissions. You will get a list of groups and users with permissions to that key.

By comparison with other keys, you may find that your PaperPort 10 key (or something at a lower level) need some permissions altered or added to. It may be simplest to make the permissions the same as those for other software you recognise.

On the other hand, it might be a bug in the installer, if you find all permissions to be the same... No doubt you've tried removing and reinstalling the software, rebooting in between?

After all that, if you get nowhere, you could try their Technical Support or forums.
