    Report cover sheet

    Hi all.

I've set up a simple report which correctly lists records in two columns using the down-then-across printing order. Now I want to set up a cover sheet using the report header as described in Woody's ACCESS Watch #3.05. When I set the header's 'Force new page' option to 'after section', the cover sheet shows OK (including page footer) but my detail section disappears. I end up with the cover sheet followed by one completely blank page (no record details or footer). I should be getting one page of records as well as the cover sheet. If I set the report header's 'Force new page' option to 'none', I get my page of records OK including the header.

Any ideas as to where I'm going wrong ?

    David (using Access 97, SR-2)

You might try shortening the height of the report header. I was able to re-create your problem and then correct it by reducing the height of the header.

Thanks Preston - however, the cover sheet I need would be almost a full page so unfortunately it looks like it's going to be a joint Access/Word exercise.

You might try using the page break control near (or at) the bottom of your report header. That's worked for me before.

Thanks Mark, that solved the problem. I now get my full-page cover sheet followed by the data, but there is a blank page in between. I'm happy to put up with this, but why does it happen ?

Now that you've added the page break, you should change the Force New Page property back to None. If that doesn't do it, check the width to make sure it doesn't exceed the width of the page (plus margins).

    Re: Report cover sheet

Hi again Mark. Thanks for the feedback. So far I've tried:

    1. Force new page(after section) + page break, gives me the cover sheet followed by one blank page and then my data.
    2. Force new page(none) + page break, gives the cover sheet followed by one blank page and no data.
    3. Force new page(after section) + no page break, gives the same as 2.
    4. Force new page(none) + no page break, gives the data with a header on each page (as expected).

I'll check the page size when I get home.

    Re: Report cover sheet

I am using Mark's technique of the page break at the bottom of the report header section, but with the report header set to page break before section. I get the cover sheet, then the detail sheets with no blanks. You might try this.

    Re: Report cover sheet

Thanks 'bconner'. My problem was having the page a fraction wider than it should have been. It is working now with a page break and the 'force new page' set to 'none'. With your setup why don't you get a blank page before anything else (ie new page before the header section) ?

Thanks Mark - My page was slightly wider than it should have been. Now all is OK.

I'm glad that was it...That was my last guess. If that hadn't worked, I would have been banging my head on the wall <img src=/S/bash.gif border=0 alt=bash width=35 height=39>

All I can tell you is that it doesn't. I played around with it for quite a while to come up with that combination, but that was 2 years ago. It's still working fine. Go figure!
