Width of bar in a stacked bar chart (Excel 2000/XP)

I am trying to create a series of stacked bar charts (2 series) with about 15 bars. The resulting chart has very skinny bars with a lot of space between bars. I have maxed the overlap at 100 and changed the gap width to 0. I get the same results with 2D and 3D charts. Is there some way to make the bars wider?

The X axis has automatically been made into a timescale axis by Excel. Each bar represents 1 day, and since the dates are 7 days (1 week) apart, the bars take up only 1/7th of the available width. To change this:
- Select Chart | Chart Options...
- Activate the Axes tab.
- Set the Category Axis to Category.
- Click OK.
