    Edit Profile - Change Password

OK, let me take a stab at another dumb question... <img src=/S/doh.gif border=0 alt=doh width=15 height=15>. When I go to Edit Profile, Basic Profile, the Password and Verify Password boxes have 13 asterisks in each. My password is not 13 characters. I always overwrite these with my password (even though I'm not changing it), because I'm afraid if I don't, then my password will get changed to something I don't know. Is this the case? And if not, why are there 13 asterisks?

When I first started playing with my profile I was scared of the same thing. I did try it without changing those asterisks and my password and username was still fine... So, I *think* it's just a security thing. Eileen would be the one with all the answers to that though.
And the only question that's dumb is the one never asked (yes, I used to be a teacher... <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>)
    have fun

Thanks, I tried it myself and it turns out that my fears were unsubstantiated.

MS SQL Server does the same thing. Frustrating bit I had with that. Code bombing out connecting to a database, I'd go into the user and see that the number of asterisks had changed and think, "Oh no, it's changed the password again."

A lot of password panes are working this way. One of the reasons is, if someone was watching you, they will not know how long or short your pasword is. This will help in the prevention of finding out ones password.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

The passwords are encrypted for your further protection - that's why it looks longer. Don't worry - either way will work. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
