    Passwords (Outlook XP)

I had reason to reformat my harddrive last week, and reinstall everything. Oh what fun. After reinstalling Outlook, I keep getting the password screen on my e-mail. It doesnt seem to want to remember them. HELP
OS: Windows XP Home (SP2). Outlook XP, 2.4 Ghz, 512 Ram,
    Thanks John

Which password screen, the one when you connect? Did you look in Tools | Email Accounts | View or Change Existing | Next | Change, check the "Remember Password" box?

Yes that is the screen, and yes I have done that continually. I seem to remember something about permissions, so I looked at my PC and made sure that the settings other than the computer name were set correctly on the laptop to give full permissions.

Look at your Modem settings under the Control Panel.

Check the Auto Complete settings , in IE, Tools, Internet Options, Then Content tab, then the AutoComplete button.

All of my box's are checked. Do you want me to uncheck the "Prompt me to save passwords" box?

    Re: Passwords (Outlook XP)

Do you log on to Windows with a password? In the old days, when people didn't use passwords, Outlook could not properly access the "protected subsystem" where it keeps user passwords. I don't know whether that applies to Windows XP.

The backup strategy is to create a new account (just pretend you have another email account) using the identical information. Use Tools>Email Accounts>Add new... If you new account works, delete the old one and hope your luck sticks. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Is this a company owned machine or a home machine?

This is a personal machine. I just knew that in order to fix this problem I had to get into the registry, and I was correct. I ended up calling Microsoft and they walked me through the fix. Attached is the procedure.
