    java machine confused (xphome sp2)

I've always been a bit confused about the best java machine to use in my Internet Explorer, though I dont have many problems viewing or accessing web pages I wonder if I'm missing something - should I stick with the one installed as shown in the screen shot or is there something better

I use Sun Java and have disabled the Microsoft version. There have been various legal battles and Microsoft's version is no longer being developed.

Yes, been doing some reading up on it and this looks the way to go. It just downloads and installs without too much configuring I hope?

It is straightforward to install and very little to configure. See Installation Instructions for Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for a guide.

    Tony,
I have the same setting as Jeff and it's been that way since I purchased the PC (assume it was the default setting). Hadn't really been aware that there were other options until I read your response. I think, like Jeff, that my question would be along the lines of "what exactly am I missing/risking (?) by sticking with the default MS setting?" Everything seems to function okay, is that likely to change or cause me problems in the long-term?
    Grateful some advice pse.

Yes, as Java is improved your copy will be left behind.
I would install the current version from Sun and have it do a auto check for updates.

You can get it (english version) at http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
