    Adding an appt get 'Could not save item' error (2003 SP1 (11.6359.6408))

    With Outlook 2003, when a person makes an appointment on the calender after they finish typing the entry, they press the Enter key and get an error: Could not save item. The only option it to click OK and the appt is not saved.

    This happens randomly. The user is making the appt by selecting time on his calendar and typing the appointment name and pressing the Enter key when done.

    I've searched Google for this error, and the question is asked many times, but no one replys. I hope it's not the same here.

    Has anyone experienced this as well? The one time I got it on my machine, I closed Outlook and noticed the system tray Outlook icon didn't close. So I did an end task on the Outlook.exe process. Then opened Outlook again and then I could add appts fine, no errors.

    We have Office 2003 installed with service pack 1. I don't have any of the post-SP1 hotfixes applied.

    Exchange Server I presume? The only thing I can think of is that there is a synchronization issue: using in-cell editing (rather than double-clicking and popping up a form) might not register on the server side yet as an entry, so when the calendar is sync'd to the server, maybe Outlook discards the edit-in process information and gets surprised by the instruction to save that entry. I know that this speculation sounds a bit ridiculous, but in database applications, such things can happen. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    Yes, Exchange 2003 server.

    And in this situation, I can't open up a new appt box. I can double-click on the time or choose New Appt from the toolbar, but nothing opens.

    So it's very weird.

    It does sound as though restarting Outlook is the best workaround. But I have no idea what might be causing it.
